SEDONA, Ariz. – Two weeks after tying a program-record round of 65 at the GCU Invitational, Grand Canyon freshman
Alexis Vakasiuola nearly added her name to that mark twice by carding a 6-under-par 66 with six birdies and no bogeys in Friday's first round of the Red Rocks Invitational at Oakcreek Country Club.
The 6-under total puts Vakasiuola in second place after 18 holes in Sedona, one shot behind Northern Arizona's Amy Hodgkins.
GCU is 1 over as a team and tied for third place among 11 teams. The Lopes are tied with Gonzaga 10 shot ahead of fifth-place Wichita State. Host Northern Arizona is in first place at 11 under, followed by Weber State at 2 under.
Each Lope started the day on the par-4 10th hole, with Vakasiuola notching three birdies on her front and back nines. She ended her day going birdie-par-birdie-birdie and is tied for second-most birdies in the field.

Lena Tremouille carded 1-over 73s with the duo combining for seven birdies. Justiz rebounded after a double-bogey start and a 4-over tally through seven holes by notching four birdies to just one bogey over her final 11 holes.
Tremouille also came back from shooting 3 over through five holes with a 2-under card with one bogey over her final 13 holes. They are tied for 15th overall.

Jess Haines shot 5 over and is 32nd, while freshman
Honor Johnson is 52nd at 9 over.
A trio of individuals competed with freshman
Rosie Maguire matching Justiz and Tremouille's output of 1 over par. Freshman
Clara Duerr shot 4 over (26th) and sophomore
Matilda Samervong recorded a 6-over score (39th).
The Lopes' second round begins Saturday at 8 a.m.
