PALM DESERT, Calif. – Grand Canyon freshman
Alexis Vakasiuola sank five birdies in a 4-under final round Monday to take second place at the 96-golfer Alice and John Wallce Women's Golf Classic at Monterey Country Club.
FINAL RESULTS
Vakasiuola was nearly bogey free over her final 18 holes Saturday, totaling five birdies, 12 pars just to one bogey to shoot 67 on the day. Her final round matched her first round, and she finished the tournament at 6 under, one of three golfers to shoot under par for the tournament.
Vakasiuola finished better than many nationally ranked players via the Clippd Scoreboard Rankings and placed only behind medalist Catherine Park of USC, who is ranked No. 38 in the nation.
GCU finished 11th out of 16 schools at 48 over for the tournament. No. 2 USC was the only team to finish under par over 54 holes, winning the event at 17 under. No. 33 Eastern Michigan placed second at 9 over, followed by No. 11 UCLA at 18 over.
The Lopes shot 11 over in Monday's final round to tie for fifth most.
GCU sophomore
Allie Justiz totaled eight birdies for the tournament, shooting 13 over with a 4-over Monday round. She tied for 45th as the Lopes' next best finisher.

Rosie Maguire (37 over, 94th) finalized the GCU starting five.

GCU notched 30 birdies, tied for sixth most among the field. Vakasiuola was in the top five among par-3, par-4 and par-5 scoring averages and tallied the second-most birdies of the tournament with 12.
The Lopes take a week off until their home tournament begins Tuesday, Feb. 24, at GCU Golf Course. The two-day GCU Invitational is free to the public, with the first two rounds on Tuesday and the third round on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
