UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – With the second-most pars and the third-least bogeys for the day, Grand Canyon sits fourth out of 16 schools in the season-opening tournament at The Leadership and Golf Invitational at Chambers Bay.

- GCU totaled an 18-over-par scorecard through Monday's two rounds of play and leads Washington by a stroke for the top-five placement. Of the 16 teams competing, 14 finished over par with the Lopes' 5-over first round being fifth best Monday..
- Lopes freshman Rosie Maguire, who is competing in her first collegiate tournament, leads the team at 3 over and is tied for 17th place. Maguire has five birdies through 36 holes and shot 73/74 for the day.
- GCU returnees Jess Haines and Lena Tremouille each shot a single-round team best of even par. Tremouille is 22nd, while Haines is one shot back of her in 23rd, putting three Lopes in the top 25 out of 84 golfers.
- The Lopes are competing as a member of the Mountain West for the first time in program history and are second among four Mountain West programs competing in the tournament.
The Leadership and Golf Invitational marks the second straight season the Lopes have competed at Chambers Bay, with tee time temperatures in the mid-50s and a high of 70 throughout the rounds. GCU's rhythm started to connect halfway through the first round, when six birdies were tallied on holes 16, 17 and 18.
Haines highlighted the first round with a 2-under score over her final six holes, finishing even par with a 1-under front nine total. Maguire showed poise in her first tournament, coming back from three straight bogeys with three birdies over the stretch of four holes to finish 1 under in the first round.

It was Tremouille who made the jump up the leaderboard and helped guide the Lopes into the top five, carding an even-par second round that included a 1-under back nine. Tremouille began her day on hole eight and tallied eight straight pars to open her round before a birdie on 16 put her score in red.
GCU totaled 105 pars, tied for second most in the field and only one back from Long Beach State. The squad's 35 bogeys were third lowest over two rounds, while its 3.11 scoring average on par-4 holes was tied for fourth best for the day.
Third and final-round action concludes Tuesday at 8 a.m.
