He continues to work closely with the program, assisting heavily in recruiting and digital content efforts. In his first full season as a part of the content staff, the Lopes won the 2021 WAC regular-season and tournament championships. Wheeler traveled with the team to the NCAA "bubble" in Indianapolis to help cover GCU's first appearance in March Madness.
Wheeler also served as a creative services intern for the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury during the 2020-21 season. He is continuously self-teaching in graphic design, photography and video.
In his previous work experience, Wheeler freelanced in graphic design for various clients. His most notable past clients include De’Anthony Melton and Quinn Cook of the NBA, Tony Pollard of the NFL, and actor/comedian Michael Rapaport.
He gained national recognition in the summer of 2019 after hip-hop artist Drake reposted a graphic he had created. Another graphic of Wheeler’s went viral in the winter of 2020, which commemorated the lost lives of rapper Nipsey Hussle and Kobe Bryant.
Wheeler is a Wasilla, Alaska, native and graduated from Wasilla High School in the spring of 2018. He grew up with his parents, Todd and Gina, and older siblings Jordan and Mallory. Wheeler is studying Sports Management at GCU.
