In April 2023, he was named Senior Associate Athletic Director, Student Services with oversight of the Compliance and Student-Athlete Development offices.
In his role overseeing both compliance and student-athlete development, Martinez oversees a team that ensures the success of GCU's student-athletes in the classroom. He also has general administrative oversight and serves on the athletic department's executive team. Martinez is the sport administrator for GCU's tennis, track and field and cross country programs.
Before coming to GCU, Martinez spent the previous four years at San Diego, most recently serving as the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance.
At San Diego, Martinez held similar responsibilities, including leading the compliance office, serving as a member of the department's senior staff and handling sport oversight duties. He served on various committees to collaborate with the university community at large and ensure full institutional control.
"We are very excited to have Anthony join our staff here at Grand Canyon University," Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs said at the time of his hire. "He has a proven ability to work collaboratively towards department and university goals and to build comprehensive compliance systems that will ensure we continue to operate with the highest standards of integrity and excellence. Â We look forward to Anthony leading our compliance efforts as well as serving in a key position as a part of our leadership staff."
Before San Diego, Martinez worked in the compliance offices at Southern Mississippi for 2 1/2 years and at Santa Clara for one year.
Martinez has experience as a four-year student-athlete and team captain with Westmont College baseball in Santa Barbara, California. He graduated with a degree in Political Science in 2008. He went on to graduate with a Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University School of Law in 2014.
Martinez resides in Glendale with his wife and two daughters.
