Lopes win opener with Henley, Owusu-Anane each scoring 17
Grand Canyon stayed undefeated on Opening Night under sixth-year head coach Bryce Drew with a 90-71 victory against Purdue Fort Wayne at sold-out Global Credit Union Arena.
GCU graduate power forward Nana Owusu-Anane's 17 points shared the team lead in scoring with graduate guard Jaden Henley. Owusu-Anane, the 6-foot-8 transfer from Brown, also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. He and junior guard Dusty Stromer shared the team assists lead with five, and he shared the team steals lead with Henley.
Owusu-Anane made 7 of 11 shots from the field, including 1 of 3 3-pointers, and also knocked down both of his free throw attempts. The Toronto-area native had a 10-point, seven-rebound, four-assist game with eight of GCU's last 19 points of the game.
