Nicholas Ojea joined the Grand Canyon athletics department in July 2015 as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration. In September 2018, Ojea was elevated to Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration. In September 2022, he was named the Assistant Vice President - Deputy Athletic Director.
In his current role, Ojea provides administrative oversight in the areas of Human Resources, Compliance, Student-Athlete Development, Sports Medicine and Sports Performance. Additionally, Ojea serves as the sport administrator for Women’s Basketball and Women's Volleyball. Previously Ojea held sport administrator oversight for Softball, Track and Field/Cross Country, Beach Volleyball and Women’s Soccer. Ojea also serves on the WAC Medical Advisory Committee, GCU Athletics Advisory Board, GCU Diversity Council, GCU Student-Athlete Wellness Committee and is the athletics administration liaison to Pepsi/Gatorade and St. Joseph’s Hospital/Dignity Health. Ojea is currently completing his final year of service on the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Rules Committee.Â

Ojea came to GCU from Rutgers where, since August of 2011, he served as Associate Athletics Director of Compliance. In this role, he provided oversight for the day-to-day NCAA compliance functions for 24 varsity sports as well as providing secondary reporting to the Office of Enterprise Risk Management, Ethics, and Compliance.

Prior to joining the Rutgers staff, Ojea served as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance at UTEP, Director of Compliance at Louisville, and Assistant Director of Compliance at Marshall.

From 2015-2017, Ojea served as Chair for the Western Athletic Conference Legislative Committee. Additionally, Ojea served on the NAAC Strategic Initiatives Committee and NCAA Division I Amateurism Fact-Finding Committee.

A Bronx, N.Y. native, Ojea holds a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management from the State University of New York at Cortland and a Master of Science degree in sport administration from the University of Louisville.

Ojea is married to former James Madison University women’s lacrosse standout Lisa Staedt Ojea. They have one daughter, Aubrey.
