Derek Leader and the Grand Canyon University women's soccer program released their 2017 schedule last week, featuring a 20-match slate that includes a pre-season matchup against University of Arizona in Tucson on August 11
th, as well as two early season tournaments where they will take on Texas Tech, New Mexico, Nevada and Detroit-Mercy.
 "Start of the season will be very challenging. It's always tough to play on the road, but it will be even tougher for a young squad with 9 incoming freshman to start our pre-season matches against Texas Tech and New Mexico," says
Derek Leader. "We will be challenged physically, but that's what will make preseason training fun. Really looking forward to it, we will be up for the challenge. "
Other highlights of the Lopes non-conference schedule includes home matches against powerhouse programs UC Santa Barbara (September 7
th), Stetson (September 14
th), and Hawaii (September 17
th).
"We've got many great matches over the course of the schedule, but hosting UC Santa Barbara, Stetson and Hawaii will really prepare us for the WAC conference, "says
Derek Leader.
The remaining non-conference schedule includes matchups against Houston Baptist, Cal State Northridge and Cal State Fullerton.
Conference play begins October 6
th as the Lopes take on UT Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas. Followed by another way game versus New Mexico State; with their WAC home-opener on Friday, October 13
th vs. Chicago State at GCU Stadium. Other home matchups include, UMKC, Seattle University, and CSU Bakersfield and will play one other away game vs. Utah Valley.
One of the Lopes highly anticipated matches will be against Seattle University on October 22
nd at GCU Stadium.
"So far Seattle has been the benchmark in the WAC, we know they will be a tough opponent, and we really look forward to them coming to our stadium next year."
The Lopes inaugural full-fledged Division-I season will be capped off with GCU hosting the WAC Tournament November 1
st through November 5
th  in Phoenix, in front of a loud and proud GCU Havocs student section.Â
