The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team finishes Western Athletic Conference play this week when it travels to Utah Valley and Seattle.
GCU is coming off a home win over Chicago State in its last match out. The Lopes defeated the Cougars 16-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 last Saturday.
Randahl Powers led the Lopes with 19 kills while
Erin Gesicki added 11 kills and six digs.
Earlier this season, GCU lost in four sets to Utah Valley (23-25, 25-23, 25-9, 25-12) and five sets to Seattle (25-22, 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 15-10) in Antelope Gym.
Powers has taken over the team lead with 176 kills and 2.02 kills per set.
Katrice Pond leads GCU with 3.17 kills per set.
Heidi Carpenter leads the Lopes with 689 assists and 29 aces.
Emma Ahern has a team-high 166 digs while
Hannah Hicks leads GCU with 72 blocks.
Utah Valley enters the week in third place in the WAC standings. Last week UVU defeated Weber State in non-conference action and swept Seattle.
UVU is led by Lexi Thompson with 277 kills and 3.47 points per set. Kiahna Vernon adds 2.86 points per set while Madison Dennison adds 3.32 points per set.
Seattle enters the week in sixth place in the WAC standings. Last week Seattle played one match and was swept by UVU. Seattle has lost three of its last four WAC matches which included a five-set win over Chicago State.
Seattle is led by Matea Mamic with 3.45 kills per set and Katarina Marinkovic with 3.31 kills per set. Maja Stojanovic has a team-high 1.09 blocks per set and Iris Ivanis leads SU with 4.42 digs per set.
GCU returns home next week for a non-conference match against Benedictine. The Thursday night match-up will be senior night for
Chloe Jenkins,
Leigh Stonerook,
Gracie Dimond,
Sara Westerman and
Emily Christensen.
