Grand Canyon has named Tim Nollan the new head coach of the women's volleyball team, Vice President of Athletics Mike Vaught announced on Saturday.
Nollan is the seventh head coach in the program's history and joins the Lopes after nine years with USC where he served as the associate head coach from 2011-15 and an assistant coach from 2007-10. In 2015, the Trojans were the No. 1 ranked team in the country and finished 33-3 after advancing to the NCAA Regional Final.
"Tim Nollan is one of the most respected volleyball coaches in the country," Vice President of Athletics Mike Vaught said. "His integrity, professionalism and championship experience make for a great future for GCU Volleyball."
In addition to coaching duties at USC, Nollan also served as the recruiting coordinator and brought in the No. 1 recruiting class in the country in 2010 and the No. 2 class in 2013 and 2014 according to PrepVolleyball.com. That talent led the Trojans to two Pac-12 titles, 17 AVCA All-Americans and the 2011 and 2014 National Players of the Year during Nollan's tenure. In his nine years with the program, the Trojans advanced to three NCAA national semifinal matches and had six appearances in NCAA regional title matches.
"First and foremost I'd like to thank President Mueller and athletic director Mike Vaught and his entire senior team for giving me this opportunity here at GCU," Nollan said. "I'm excited about this program. It's a young program on the rise. They're going to make the transition here to becoming a perennial powerhouse in the WAC and working to become a national powerhouse program."
Prior to his time at USC, Nollan spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Pepperdine where the Waves made three trips to the NCAA tournament from 2004-07. Nollan assisted Pepperdine in landing back-to-back top-10 recruiting classes with the No. 10 class in 2005 according to Volleyball Magazine and the No. 7 class in 2006 according to PrepVolleyball.com. He also had a hand in recruiting Pepperdine's 2008 class, which was ranked No. 8 by Volleyball Magazine.
At the club level, Nollan guided his Club Troy 16's to a bronze medal at the 2012 Junior Olympics. Previously, Nollan took his Sports Shack 16-1 team to the 2007 Reno Festival title. In 2008, his team finished second at the Reno Festival while his 2009 16-1 team finished in the regional top ten and qualified for the Junior Olympics. He previously served as head coach in the Sports Shack 18-1 team for four years (1999-2003). His 2005 14-1 squad posted a seventh-place finish at the Reno Festival.
