Grand Canyon University women's soccer coach Stevie Gill has announced the addition of three student-athletes who will further their academic and athletic careers at GCU in 2015-16. Head coach Stevie Gill "I'm very happy with the players coming in that will call GCU their home," said head coach Stevie Gill. "I think that we will have a good mix of athleticism and technical ability that will further our cause in becoming a force to be reckoned with at the NCAA Division 1 level. As always, our priority is to bring in quality students that are excellent athletes and great people. I believe that we have hit the target with these three individuals and I look forward to working with them in order to realize our goals here at GCU."
Women's Soccer Additions Megan Anth: 5-7, Fr., Midfield, Maryland Heights, Mo. (Pattonville High School) McKenzie Cook: 5-3, Fr. Forward, Silverdale, Wash. (Klahowya Secondary School) Deseree Doty: 5-7, Fr., Forward, Bremerton, Wash. (Crosspoint Academy) Megan Anth Megan Anth: 5-7, Fr., Midfield, Maryland Heights, Mo. (Pattonville High School) Megan Anth joins GCU from Pattonville High School in Maryland Heights, Mo. While at Pattonville, Anth was a four-year regular for Pirates, earning First Team All-Conference recognition her sophomore and junior seasons, while being tagged as a Second Team-All Conference honoree her freshman season. Anth served as a team captain during her junior campaign and helped PHS to conference and district titles each of her four seasons. I think she will make an immediate impact in our attack and can play multiple positions which adds to her versatility."
McKenzie CookMcKenzie Cook: 5-3, Fr., Forward, Silverdale, Wash. (Klahowya Secondary School) McKenzie Cook was a standout four-year letterwinner for Klahowya Secondary School in Silverdale, Wash. The three-time First Team All-League selection was named the 1A Player of the Year after guiding her team to a state championship during her senior season. Cook was also twice crowned as the league MVP during her four seasons. Club Team: Harbor Premier Club Coach: Neil Megson Coach Gill on Cook: "McKenzie has a fantastic touch and is a technically gifted player with great vision and passing ability. She can take players on and distribute the ball and will likely help others get on the score sheet."
Deseree Doty: 5-7, Fr., Forward, Bremerton, Wash. (Crosspoint Academy) Deseree Doty Deseree Doty, the 2014 Washington State Player of the Year and four-time All-State selection, capped off her stellar prep career with state championships her final two seasons. Her 53 goals set a new single-season record for the state of Washington. The four-time First Team Sea-Tac All-League selection scored the game-winner in the 2013 State Championship. She was twice voted by Kitsap Sun as the WestSound Player of the Year. Doty is also a standout basketball and track athlete for Crosspoint Academy, already earning Sea-Tac All-League honors three times. She holds the school record in the triple jump and finished seventh at the state meet in the 400. Club Team: CK UNITED96 Club Coach: Trohn Josserand Coach Gill on Doty: "Des is lightning fast and broke all the scoring records in the state of Washington this season. With her blazing speed, I think she will prove to be a handful for defenders and will look to continue her scoring prowess here in sunny Phoenix."
