Grand Canyon women’s volleyball has added to its recruiting class for the program’s inaugural
season in NCAA Division I.
Coach Kris Naber has announced the addition of Eastern Washington University transfer Britta Forsythe, a 6-1 junior right-side hitter from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Feather River Junior College (Quincy, Calif.) transfer Marilyn Agae, a 5-7 junior setter from Las Vegas and Arizona High School standout Emily Gosciminski, a 5-7 libero from Ironwood Ridge High School during the spring signing period.
Forsythe spent three seasons at EWU. She was redshirted in 2010, played in 12 matches in 2011 and 11 matches in 2012, including one start. In 2011, EWU went to the Big Sky Championships and placed fourth. At Lake City High School, Forsythe was a 2010 nominee for the Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame Female Athlete of the Year award. In 2009, she played in the Junior Olympics in Miami for the Spokane Splash National Team. In 2006, she was the Mountain Christian League Most Valuable Player.
Agae was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association Junior College All-American along with being a CCCAA All-State and All-NorCal selection and the Feather River College Female Athlete of the Year. She was also chosen as the Golden Valley Conference Most Valuable Player and led her team to back-to-back undefeated conference titles.
Gosciminski, from Mesa, Ariz., was named to the AIA Division II All-Division Second team and the Division II Section II First Team. As a junior, she made All-City Second Team. She has played on very successful club teams, earning a bronze medal at junior nationals playing for the Arizona East Valley Juniors 17 Mizuno team last year and placing third in the Las Vegas Invitational, second in the Colorado Crossroads – earning a bid to junior nationals – for the Zona 18-1s team.
“With these additions, we feel we have players that can contribute right away, as well as, players that will develop and contribute down the road,” said Naber.
The trio joins Flagstaff High setter Bree Davis and Frisco, Tex., middle blocker Hannah Hankins, who signed during the early period in November.
