The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team finished fifth at the NCAA Championships at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona, Fla. It was GCU’s second straight top-five finish after capturing third last season.
The Antelopes completed the championship at 83-over 1235. Canyon finished with a 311 today, after posting a 309 during the opening round, 305 in round two and a 310 yesterday.
Lynn rallied to win the team title, using a 305 today to complete the four rounds with a 35-over 1187. Nova Southeastern (1190), who led after the first three rounds, finished second and three shots back of Lynn.
Charlotte Jaengkit was the highest placed ‘Lope and finished in fifth place among all individuals. She used a 75 today to finish 8-over 296. Jaengkit finished in a tie for 23
rd last season. Nancy Vergara of Barry claimed the individual title with a 3-over 291.
GCU’s
Emily Kaye and
Kelcey Tate each finished in a tie for 31
st, carding 22-over 310’s.
Ali Thompson and
Eryn Olson completed the championships with 330’s and a tie for 58
th.
The 12-team NCAA Championship was played on a par-72 course that measured 7,088 yards.
Grand Canyon will now make the transition to Division I next season and will compete in the Western Athletic Conference.
