Grand Canyon University track and field head coach Tom Flood has been named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Outdoor Track and Field Men’s and Women’s West Region Coach of the Year. Flood was also named the USTFCCCA West Region Men’s Coach of the Year for the indoor season after leading the team to a No. 1 ranking.
Flood had nine of his 16 qualifying marks accepted into the outdoor championships and has led the squads to a No. 5 national ranking for the women and No. 9 ranking for the men. Both teams also rank second in the West Region, while the women’s squad led the West Region in seven events throughout the season.
Assistant Coach Kayla Todnem was named USTFCCCA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Men’s West Region Assistant Coach of the Year after leading the men to two automatic qualifiers in the long jump and three provisional marks in the triple jump. Todnem also oversaw the five long jump qualifiers for the indoor championships, which produced a National Champion in
Karlin Stewart and runner-up in
Ramon Cooper en route to claiming the men's team title.
The ‘Lopes will next be in action when they travel to Pueblo, Colo., for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 24-26. The field, which was announced earlier this week, includes 11 individual entries and two relay squads for the women and nine individual entries for the men.
