Grand Canyon University’s
Mychala Lynch captured the 100 fly national championship this evening at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium in Mansfield, Tex, becoming the first swimmer in GCU history to win an NCAA title.
Lynch set a time of 54.37, just missing the D-II national record by .18 of a second.
The ladies are currently in fourth place at the NCAA Division II National Championships after the second of four days of competition.

Stacey Rudman,
Samantha Magnani and Lynch placed sixth in the 200 free relay (1:34.15) to start of the night of finals competition. The 400 medley relay team of
Stacey Wymer,
Aime Osterberg, Lynch and Politio closed out the night with a school record and fifth-place swim (3:47.47). Magnani finished 16th in the 200 free (1:53.99).
The men’s swimming team remained in third place after day two of the championships.
Brian Morrison highlighted the men’s night in the pool for the Antelopes, taking second in the 400 IM (3:51.57). The time was a season best and new school record. The 200 free relay team of

Kyle Shores finished second in a tightly contested final. GCU finished with a 1:19.98, just .21 of a second off the winning swim by Drury.
Everton Kida,
Eetu Karvonen, Taylor and Tretiakov finished fifth in the 400 medley relay with a 3:15.27. The time was nearly three seconds faster than the previous school record.
Ivan Nechunaev took sixth in the 100 fly (48.45).
The championships continue tomorrow and will feature the 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 fly and 800 free relay. Karvonen will look to win the title in the 100 breast, coming in with the fastest time in D-II at 53.45. He has posted the only sub-54 time this season.
