The Grand Canyon University women’s basketball team led throughout, downing Humboldt State 72-56, tonight at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Antelopes improve to 3-2 with the win; Humboldt State falls to 2-2.

GCU used an 18-7 run over an eight minute stretch in the second half to push a closely contested three-point game into a 60-46 advantage with 5:17 left.
Judy Jones, who finished with 13 points, scored eight during the critical game-winning stretch. She also led the team with nine rebounds and added three blocked shots.
Maylinn Smith sank eight-free throws in the closing minutes to ice the game. She finished with a team-high 19 points, 15 of which came in the second half.
Grand Canyon opened quickly, making 6-of-9 shots to jump out to a 14-6 edge. The Jacks chipped away and tied the game at 22 with just under four minutes remaining in the half. An 8-4 ‘Lopes spurt put them up 30-26 at the half.
Despite not making a three-point shot for the second time this season, the Antelopes posted a solid 12-for-25 effort from the floor in the final 20 minutes.
GCU dominated on the glass, 48-29, leading to a 40-22 advantage with points in the paint. The Antelopes once again showed the depth of their roster, outscoring the Jacks in bench points, 18-0.
Grand Canyon will next be in action at the GCU Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 23 and 24 in GCU Arena. They will first face Western New Mexico on the Friday, with tip-off scheduled for 2:30 p.m. GCU returns to the court on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., where they will square off with Fort Lewis.
