Coach Flood, GCU head track and field coach, announced the signing of eight female athletes for the 2010-2011 season.
The women’s track and field program is coming together with the addition of these talented Lady ‘Lopes for its first official season. Seven of the eight are Phoenix locals, while six come with collegiate experience, including a Division I transfer.
The first of two incoming freshmen is Brianne Kee from Sunrise Mountain High School. She is no stranger to athletic success being a state champion two years in a row. In 2008, Kee was the 5AII State long jump champion and in 2009 the 5AII State triple jump champion and long jump runner-up. She holds a personal best of 18 feet 3 inches in the long jump and 35 feet 2 inches in the triple jump. Aside from athletic accomplishments, Brianne worked hard in the classroom, graduating 4th in her class.
The lone outsider is incoming freshman Keegan Williams from Shawnee-Maranatha Academy in Kansas. She is a three-time 2A Kansas State pole vault champion (2008, 2009 and 2010). Her personal best stands at 11 feet 4 inches. Also an accomplished student, Williams was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council Vice-President.
Lacey Modzeleski (Cactus Shadows HS) is a sophomore transfer from Glendale Community College; she has 3 years of eligibility remaining. In her single season at GCC, Modzeleski placed 7th at the NJCAA National Championships in the triple jump. As a triple jump and high jump student-athlete, she has personal records of 37 feet 5 inches (TJ) and 5 feet 3 inches (HJ).
Also a GCC transfer, Amber Christenberry (Ironwood HS) will be a sophomore for the ‘Lopes. She finished 3rd in the 2009 5AII State long jump championship. At the 2010 NJCAA Region I, Christenberry placed 4th in the 100m (12.55), 5th in the 400[indoor]H (65.08), 4th in the long jump (17’ 10”) and 4th in the triple jump (34’ 11”).
The last GCC transfer of the bunch is sophomore Lesilia Foster (Copper Canyon HS). In her single season at Glendale, Foster was the 2010 NJCAA Region I runner-up in the long jump. She holds a personal best of 18 feet 9.5 inches.
Callie Davis (Highland HS), sophomore transfer from Mesa Community College, is a hurdling student-athlete. In her senior season at Highland, Davis finished 4th in both the 100H and 300H events at the 2009 5AI State Championships. As a collegiate athlete, she was the 2010 NJCAA Regional I runner-up in the 100H with a personal best time, 14.5 seconds.
The Divison I transfer, Amber Yingling (Kellis HS) comes to the ‘Lopes from Northern Arizona University. Yingling was a state champion in 2009 for the 4AI division in the long jump and the runner-up in the triple jump event. Competing in both indoor and outdoor track, she holds personal bests of 19 feet 1.25 inches (I) and 18 feet 5.25 inches (O) for the long jump and 38 feet 8.25 inches (I) and 38 feet 1.5 inches (O) for the triple jump.
