1982 produced the third straight NAIA national title as Canyon piled up a 57-16 overall record. The 'Lopes piching staff had a 3.07 ERA for the year. In winning the national tournament with a 5-0 tournament mark, the 'Lopes ran their College World Series (CWS) streak (over three years) to 17 straight games. Catcher Peter Bethea won his second straight NAIA CWS MVP award. Shortstop/secondbaseman Tommy Nunez won the Gold Glove Award. The 'Lopes beat Lews-Clark State College (ID) 10-6 in the final.
